A Letter From a South Side Apartment

by Kathy Henry on January 27, 2012 1 Comment

A couple of years ago, I read Dr. Martin Luther King’s A Letter from a Birmingham Jail and I was mesmerized by the passion and anger in his words and although we are in the second decade of the 21st century, his words still resonate. This letter I am writing is my tribute to him for giving his life for me and other disadvantaged and disrespected groups in America. It would sadden him to no end that nothing has really changed in American society in regards to race and economics. Perhaps one day, we will be truly free from the chains of racism and economic selfishness that enveloped America since its inception.

If I Ran the World: The Ideal Educational System for America

by Kathy Henry on January 19, 2012 0 Comments

The role that the educational system should play in the live of individuals is to educate them to be conscious, critically thinking individuals who do not passively accept knowledge but question the knowledge that is being taught to them. Education should be taught to give students the skills and intelligence they need to understand the world and how it works in order to survive in it. However, the American educational system has been known to produce students who are woefully ignorant about the history of America and different cultures. One of the reasons for this dilemma is because the educational system in its current state does not leave much room for critical thinking but trains individuals to be docile, worker bees in a decaying economy that keeps corporations wealthy and its workers barely making it. The problem becomes evident if one looks at the varied curriculums and subjects that are ...

10 Ways to Find Out If You Are a Brainwashed Negro

by Kathy Henry on January 9, 2012 0 Comments

Brainwashed Negro: A Black individual who has internalized every negative stereotype about Blacks and their culture and is seething with self-hatred and low self-esteem. Usually believes that the only path to success and true happiness is to marry or assimilate into White culture, hoping to escape the sins of being born Black.

One of the biggest problems in the Black community is a lack of unity caused by years of self-hatred. Self-hatred in the Black community is due to centuries of brainwashing by the dominant culture into believing that Blacks and their contributions to mainstream society are worthless and that Blacks themselves are worthless and ugly. Self-hatred has caused some Black folks to demean themselves and other Blacks in many hurtful ways that are not productive to anyone.  Here are 10 ways to find out if you as a Black person have been brainwashed by the dominant culture:

The Great Debate in My House Concerning Ron Paul

by Kathy Henry on January 2, 2012 0 Comments

Lately, my son and I have been going at it about Ron Paul and whether he is qualified enough to become President of the United States.  He plans on voting for Ron Paul because he is pissed off at Obama for signing into law the National Defense Authorization Act which would allow the military greater authority to detain and interrogate U.S. citizens and non-citizens and deny them legal rights protected by the Constitution.  As a young, Black male, he is appalled at President Obama’s actions and told me that I better watch what I write on my blog because the government is going to come after me.  He is so pissed off that he has stated that he is not voting for Obama under any circumstances and believes that Congressman Paul is going to win the Republican nomination and will beat President Obama later on this year.

A Village Without Love: The Sad & Sorry State of the Black Community

by Kathy Henry on January 1, 2012 0 Comments

There has been an ongoing war between the sexes in the Black community for decades and it is time for it to end because it is pathetic and the only people hurting are the children. 70% of Black children reside in a single parent household; usually the mother and Black children are highly overrepresented in the foster care system.  Although Blacks are only 12.6% of the population, Black children are 41% of the foster care population and that is a damn shame.

Some ...
